About Me

"A humble knowledge of oneself is a surer road to God than a deep searching of the sciences."    Thomas a' Kempis

I have been a practitioner since 1988.  Over the last 22 years of practice, my approach to therapy has become very eclectic.  I have come to understand that no one style can possibly meet the needs of everyone that comes to me for assistance. However, the one variable that is always necessary for a successful therapeutic experience is the positive and trusting bond that is formed between me and those I work with.  Having been on both sides of the therapeutic process many times, I understand that sharing intimate details and/or painful life issues is extremely difficult and must be done within the context of a safe and caring relationship.

I have a strong faith in human potential (me included), but understand that people, tend to limit that potential simply through faulty thought processes.  These self-limiting thoughts are generally based on negative childhood conditioning and bear very little reality to the individual's true psychological and spiritual potential.

My area of specialty includes addictive disorders and related concerns, trauma, issues related to dual diagnosis and autistic spectrum disorders.

I received my master’s degree in 1983 and license as a marriage and family therapist in 1988. Since 1988 I have been in private practice and specializing in treating addictive disorders and related mental and relational issues. Between 1988 and 1991, I also served as a consulting therapist at two inpatient hospitals that treated dually diagnosed and chemically dependent individuals.

In 1991, all course work for a doctoral degree in psychology was completed. My doctoral dissertation research focused on the role “Spirituality” served in the recovery process for many individuals. In addition to my continuing work in addiction recovery, I have also provided psychological consultation and made programming recommendations for individuals diagnosed with developmental and/or autistic spectrum disorders.

Over the past several years I have received specialized training to treat trauma victims and continue to work closely with major educational institutions to stay current with the treatment of addictive and related diseases.
